NFPA 601: Security Services and Fire Watch Patrols
Most fire watch pages talk about when a watch is required. NFPA 601 is a standard about the patrols themselves: the person, the rounds, and the record.
NFPA 601 is the Standard for Security Services in Fire Loss Prevention. It covers guard patrols protecting property from fire: how rounds are conducted and supervised, how they are recorded, what guards are trained to do, and how incidents get reported. Insurers and large facilities reference it when they specify what a fire watch service must look like.
What NFPA 601 covers
NFPA 601 sets requirements for security personnel whose job includes fire loss prevention: patrol routes and frequency, supervision, means of recording rounds, training in extinguisher use and alarm response, and incident reporting. It is the closest thing the NFPA library has to a job description for a fire watch guard.
