Fire Panel Reset: Silence, Acknowledge, Reset
Three buttons on the panel, three very different meanings. Guards are trained on the difference because pressing the wrong one at the wrong time can hide the information the fire department needs.
Acknowledge tells the panel a human has seen the event. Silence stops the sounders while the alarm condition stays live on the display. Reset attempts to return the system to normal, and it comes last, only after the cause is found and the facility or alarm company authorizes it. Resetting early can erase the event indication and rearm a system straight into the same fault.
What the buttons do
Acknowledge (or ack) silences the panel’s internal buzzer and marks the event as seen; the alarm condition and the building notification continue. Silence stops the silenceable notification outputs as the system is configured, and strobes often keep flashing, while the panel keeps displaying the event. Reset attempts to clear the event and return the system to normal, which only works once the initiating condition, the device, the smoke, the pulled station, is actually resolved.

Panel training questions
It can change the active display responders read, and it rearms the system into an unresolved condition that commonly re-alarms immediately. Exact behavior varies by panel, which is one more reason resets wait for authorization.
